How to Print Coloring Pages from a Phone or Computer

Choose the right file, check paper and scale in print preview, and avoid the common screenshot and cropping problems.

A clean print usually starts before you press Print: open the full-size file, choose the right format, and check the preview. This walkthrough covers the basics for a phone or computer. Printer menus differ by device and model, so use the options your print dialog actually offers.

Start with the original file, not a screenshot

Open the printable's page and use its PDF or PNG download link. A screenshot can include browser controls, trim the page, or save a smaller image than the original. On Crayon Printables, each printable detail page provides its available download options.

Choose PDF when you want a page-sized document that is easy to preview and print. Choose PNG when you need an image file for a document or another supported app. If you only need a few designs together, add them in the custom PDF creator and print the finished file once.

Print from a computer

  1. Open the PDF or PNG you downloaded.
  2. In Chrome, open the print dialog with Ctrl + P on Windows/Linux or Command + P on Mac. Other browsers have a similar Print command in the menu.
  3. Select the printer and check the paper size. Choose Letter or A4 to match the paper in the tray.
  4. Look at the preview. Make sure the complete drawing is visible and not clipped.
  5. If the image looks too large, choose a fit or scale option available in your dialog. Keep the drawing proportional; avoid stretching it.
  6. Print one test page before making a classroom or party stack.

Chrome's help center explains that the print dialog lets you choose a destination and preferred print settings. The exact labels can vary by operating system and printer.

Print from a phone

iPhone or iPad: Open the downloaded file or printable in an app that supports printing, tap Share or the app's actions menu, then choose Print. With AirPrint, the printer and Apple device need to be on the same Wi-Fi network, and the printer must support AirPrint. Review the preview and copy count before you print.

Android: Open the downloaded file, tap the app's menu or Share option, and look for Print. Available choices depend on your phone, file viewer, and printer setup. If Print is missing, try opening the PDF in another viewer or send it to a computer.

For either phone type, a PDF is often easier to inspect than an image opened in a photo viewer. Zoom in to confirm the full outline is present, but do not print a zoomed screenshot.

Quick fixes for common problems

  • The edge is cut off: Check the preview, paper size, and scale. Try “Fit” or “Fit to printable area” if offered.
  • The image is tiny: Confirm that the original download opened and the dialog is not printing multiple pages per sheet.
  • The page is sideways: Check orientation in print preview; use the orientation that gives the drawing the most room.
  • The output looks blurry: Reopen the original PDF or PNG instead of printing a screenshot or thumbnail.
  • Nothing prints from the phone: Confirm that the printer is available to the phone and follow the printer maker's setup instructions. For AirPrint, check network and printer compatibility.

Printer margins are normal: most home printers cannot place ink all the way to the paper edge. A small white border does not mean the coloring page failed to print.

Choose pages and print a small set

Browse easy coloring pages and open the individual printable you want. For a mixed set, use the PDF creator to gather selected pages into one file. Print a single test copy first, especially when changing paper size or printer settings.
