Community Helpers Coloring Week: A 5-Day Plan
A classroom-friendly five-day sequence for noticing community roles, asking open questions, and connecting printable pages with everyday places.

A five-day theme can help children revisit a topic without repeating the same worksheet task. Use the community helpers pages as one resource among books, conversations, dramatic play, and children's own observations. Include roles that are meaningful in your community, and avoid assuming that every family has the same experiences with a particular service.
A flexible week
- Day 1 — Who helps in our community? Put out two pages and ask children what they notice. Invite names for familiar roles, and make room for different answers.
- Day 2 — What tools or places do we see? Look at a doctor bag, book cart, or vehicle. Ask what the item might be used for and what else a person might need at work.
- Day 3 — Connect to a real place. Match a page with a library book, a safe walk near school, or a classroom visitor if available. A photo or story is an alternative when a visit is not practical.
- Day 4 — Imagine a helpful service. Children can invent a role, vehicle, or tool that would help someone. They can draw instead of using a printable.
- Day 5 — Share a choice. Revisit a favorite page or invite children to show one detail from their week. Passing is fine.
NAEYC describes community learning through play and conversation about the roles and everyday needs of people who live and work in a community. Use questions that invite children's observations rather than asking them to memorize a fixed list of occupations.
Keep the examples broad and respectful
Community work includes many kinds of service, care, transport, maintenance, and communication. Avoid presenting one job as belonging to a particular gender or treating some roles as more important than others. If you invite a family or community member to contribute, make participation optional and offer another way to share.
Choose pages for your group
The Community Helpers collection includes pages such as an ambulance, a builder's tools, a book cart, and a garden worker. Select a few that fit your plan, then use the PDF creator to prepare a small group set. Children can choose a page, draw their own idea, or simply join the conversation.
